I Miss the New Old Greelee

Posted in Soaps, TV on May 30, 2008 by Engtovo

How come Greenlee had Ryan fix her tire before going to the hospital but then needed Ryan to take her home from the hospital????  So she is just leaving her car at the hospital parking lot so the writers can make Annie mad that Ryan is with Greens again?  Sometimes it is the littlest inconsistencies that are the most annoying. If I drove  someplace I would have to be completely incapacitated, or my car would have to be totally broken, for me to not drive myself home.  They love to make women independent when it serves the story and helpless when it serves the story.  Greens can run a huge corporation but she can drive herself home if she is tired or emotional guess she shouldn’t drive if she has PMS too.

Greenlee says to Kendall “You slept with my fiancé there is no way to get over that”  ahhhhhhhhh he wasn’t your fiance at the time he was barely your boyfriend!  And uh why isn’t Kendall saying “well you kidnapped my baby”? Seriously this is the unforgivable after all that Greens has done?  The “old” Greenlee is just beyond selfish, the now old new Greenlee gave the character a heart and I miss her.  This one they could just kill off.  It is odd considering I always liked the old Greenlee before the new old Greenlee.  I always thought this deeply selfish Greenlee was the writing but now it is clear that a big part of it is how Rebecca chooses to portray Greenlee.  I wish she would just grow up even soap characters need to grow and change to keep us interested in their story.  That was happening with the other actress and now the character is just regressing, it’s too bad to see the growth lost.  Of course they have Kendall acting like a psycho neurotic for the last two years and want us to see her a great mama.

5-29 ken

Finally Kendall brings up the kidnapping but then Greenlee thinks Kendall owes her and should give her the company

5-29 green

I know Jack is Greens long lost dad but did he really say to Zach “Kendall just takes and takes from Greenlee”??? you have to be kidding.  Kendall would have handed Greens her own baby if Greenlee hadn’t abandoned him and left town and Kendall is the taker!  OH JACK!  Shame on you daddy or not.

5-29 jack

I don’t like the new Colby and she doesn’t look older than the old one and has no chemistry with Frankie what were they thinking?

Kendall & Greenlee AHHHH

Posted in Soaps, TV on May 27, 2008 by Engtovo

Shut these girls up I cannot stand the whining any longer.  It is pathetic.  I can’t believe that anyone at AMC thought that two life and death storylines, the Angie Jesse Robert thing and the Tadd Kathy Dixie story should be interspersed at their pinnacle moments with Kendall and Greenlee whining on and on!

Cmon,  Zac and Greenlee were gone a fricken MONTH everyone thought they were dead and rightfully so.  Now Kendall and Adien having sex was disgusting to me but not really out of character for Kendall, those are the kind of bad judgements she has always made.  But now all of a sudden it is the ULTIMATE betrayal of Greenlee??? Spare me!  Lets not forget Greenlee kidnapped Kendall’s kid and bla bla bla.  When Greenlee was down under in the shelter, she and Adien had just started their relationship.  It wasn’t even serious yet.  For Zac to feel betrayed and crazed yeah ok but Greenlee that is a bit of a stretch.

In the middle of the big storylines we have been waiting for with Julia dying and Tadd in trouble and FINALLY the Kate/Kathy thing about to come out, listening to those two whine just shows clearly how bad that whole storyline is.  Reality check here, the whole idea that any of the foursome would even be at the wedding is absurd, since when do doctors invite their patients to their weddings.  Apparently only when there won’t be enough guests if they don’t!

Then to top things off Greelee has to do the ohhhhhhh so predictable and kiss Zac and want to have sex with him.  We are suppose to believe they run a big cosmetics corporation while they behave like juniors in high school.

BETTER WRITING PLEASE

OLTL Friday Cliffhanger

Posted in Soaps, TV on May 24, 2008 by Engtovo

Quote of the week goes to OLTL

Adiranna is showing Gigi Rex’s toothbrush in a plastic bag telling her she needs to keep up the charade of the last ten years.

Gigi says to Adrianna “Translation please, I don’t speak Bitch”

toothbrush

gigi

I’m not sure why Charlie decided that telling Vicki about the Rex lie before the Jared part was the way to go??  Seems like an odd place to start the story.  He could have said his name was Banks not Balsom and that would have started the conversation in the right direction. LOL

 charlie

Vicki wasn’t taking it so well, insisting he go tell Rex immediately, which he headed out to do and we were left with him and Rex face to face, at Rex’s apartment.  Rex had just thrown away the fork he had taken from breakfast at Vicki’s weeks earlier for DNA.  I always wondered why Rex took the fork but never did the test.  Wait til Vicki hears the rest of the story!

 vik

I have been wondering if there is a possibility that Starr and Cole would ask Marci and Michael to raise their baby and now we have this accident at the end of OLTL with Sam/Tommy in the front seat with Todd, careening into, of all people, Adrianna.  Marci and Michael will be first on the scene.  Perhaps the writers have made Todd so nasty the last few months for the purpose of getting Tommy back to Marci and Michael?  If they prove that Todd really is too dangerous to have custody, then they redeem Marci’s character for running off with the baby.  Of course they do so at the expense of Todd who has been a good father, if not a good person for the better part of Starr’s life.  Then again maybe Sam/Tommy is gonna kick the bucket?  I was kind of hoping for a demise to Adrianna since I know she is leaving the show, but clearly she is awake in the scenes for Monday.  I guess the upside if she leaves alive is it frees Rex from any obligatory grieving.  There are lots of different directions this could take.

Ashlee Haters

Posted in Music World on May 24, 2008 by Engtovo

I just don’t get why so many people hate this girl!  The reviews on itunes are mostly about hating her and not even about her music.  What exactly did she supposedly do that was so horrible.  What I find most odd is all the people who say she can’t sing!  Even people who like her a lot will say we we know she is not the best singer…but

Sorry but there is nothing wrong with this girl’s voice.  A singer who is technically perfect is very rare in the world and usually incredibly BORING.  My example would be Whitney Houston, there is no doubt she has the pipes but 90% of her music says nothing and evokes no emotion in me.  Mariah Carey’s five octaves aggravate me, it is about vocal gymnastics not a message.  Music is supposed to be about self expression, sharing something from the soul.  Ashlee does that well I think.  Obviously at almost 45 years old I am way beyond some of the lyrics because they are the soul expression of a 20 something.  But It isn’t like I have forgotten being 20 something and I relate to her perspectives representing a lot of things I was feeling at her age.

I find her music very honest with an emotional raw quality that is rare in pop music.  The itunes haters keep saying over and over things like she is poser, I find that just silly.  Just because her sister was popular before her doesn’t been she wants to be her sister, or is trying to be different from her sister.  They are two different people with different things to say.  I have never really been drawn to Jessica’s sickly sweet persona, Can’t say anything about her music since I don’t have any of it and I liked her in Dukes of Hazard.  Ashlee is her own talent, and should not be compared to Jessica.  She was working long before most people knew who she was, acting on Seventh Heaven.  Sure it was a cheesy little show but she did fine playing her role.

I’ve had her first album for quite some time and have really enjoyed it and then recently got the newest album, Bittersweet World.  She had preformed the song “Boys” on dancing with the Stars.  I thought that is a catchy little song and specifically looked for the album the next time I was in wal-mart.   It is a great album and I have been listening to it often while exercising.

While I was at itunes I wondered about her second album, I knew she had one, but hadn’t seen it at the store at a time I had extra cash for music.  That’s when I found the depth of hatred for her.  I was shocked!  I thought WTF is with this?  Why is the reaction to this girl so intense?  These can’t just possibly be Jessica fans that hate her sister?  Some people mentioned that people only bought her music because of her reality show.  I had no idea she had a reality show on MTV because I gave up watching MTV years ago when they stopped playing music and started filling space with specific 20 something programming.  I download the second album (I Am Me) and gave it a listen and it is a great little album too.

So listen up you Ashlee haters why don’t you try and write some music of your own and sing it out and see if anyone wants to buy your perspective.  I think Ashlee must be strong girl with all that energy out there being thrown at her all the time.  It would have crushed me at her age.  So go Ashlee just make a good song about the haters for your next album!  LOL

I grew up in the 60s and 70s and in all honestly Ashlee can out sing a great deal of the most popular singers of the time.  It’s the message, the energy, the expression that counts.  Too many singers really have nothing to say.  Ashlee has lots to say and that always brings forth some haters, but the amount of haters out there tells me I need to listen even a little more closely than I already have.  She is pushing buttons and that means what she is saying is relevant!  She has evoked a lot of emotions…. WELL DONE

Fiction Exposes the Sorry State of America

Posted in Politics, Prime Time, TV on May 22, 2008 by Engtovo

Sometimes Boston Legal really makes their point well and in the season ender when Allan is told he is representing traitors he responds that the country was started by traitors!  I Love it!

Denny’s defense of America was just as telling as Allen’s arguments about how far from the ideals of the Declaration of Independence this country has traveled.  He freely admits to all the horrendous things America is doing and defends them by giving examples of how we have ALWAYS done these things.

In reality we started screwing up immediately after the Declaration when we approved a constitution that allowed slavery, didn’t acknowledge women, and used phases like “all men are created equal” knowing full well that it was not referring to black, red or yellow men and did not include women at all.  They had no idea that in the future, generations of Americans would be born that actually believed that referred them, them even if they were not white men!  After all that power belonged solely to white men was a given at their time!  These generation for the most part have no idea our great country was not only started by traitors to the British Crown but on lands acquired through Genocide of the 500 Nations already here.  History gets presented in a favorable way for those who even learn any history at all.

Allan made great closing arguments with only one mistake, calling us a democracy, with all the historical references in the show the writers should have known not to use that term since we were never a democracy, by its original definition, but a Representative Republic.  Now the definitions have all conveniently been changed to make a democracy and Representative Republic and a few other forms of government “democracies”  So that we can spread democracy around the world by force if necessary!

Here are some old definitions from 1928

These succinct definitions of what is Democracy and what is a Republic was produced by the US Army in 1928,  These definitions have been quietly withdrawn since, soon after.

Democracy:

A government of the masses.

Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of “direct” expression.

Results in mobocracy.

Attitude toward property is comunistic-negating property rights.

Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate. whether it be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences.

Results in demagogism license, agitation, discontent, anarchy.

Democracy is the “direct” rule of the people and has been repeatedly tried without success.

A certain Professor Alexander Fraser Tytler, nearly two centuries ago, had this to say about Democracy: ” A Democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of Government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess out of public treasury.  From that moment on the  majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that Democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy, always to be followed by a Dictatorship.”

A democracy is majority rule and is destructive of liberty because there is no law to prevent the majority from trampling on individual rights. Whatever the majority says goes! A lynch mob is an example of pure democracy in action. There is only one dissenting vote, and that is cast by the person at the end of the rope.

Republic:

Authority is derived through the election by the people of public officials best fitted to represent them.

Attitude toward property is respect for laws and individual rights, and a sensible economic procedure.

Attitude toward law is the administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with a strict regard to consequences.

A greater number of citizens and extent of territory may be brought within its compass.

Avoids the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or mobocracy. Results in statesmanship, liberty, reason, justice, contentment, and progress.

Is the “standard form” of government throughout the world.

A republic is a form of government under a constitution which provides for the election of:

  1. an executive and

  2. a legislative body, who working together in a representative capacity, have all the power of appointment, all power of legislation all power to raise revenue and appropriate expenditures, and are required to create

  3. a judiciary to pass upon the justice and legality of their governmental acts and to recognize

  4. certain inherent individual rights.

Take away any one or more of those four elements and you are drifting into autocracy. Add one or more to those four elements and you are drifting into democracy.

Our Constitutional fathers, familiar with the strength and weakness of both autocracy and democracy, with fixed principles definitely in mind, defined a representative republican form of government. They “made a very marked distinction between a republic and a democracy and said repeatedly and emphatically that they had founded a republic.”

A republic is a government of law under a Constitution. The Constitution holds the government in check and prevents the majority (acting through their government) from violating the rights of the individual. Under this system of government a lynch mob is illegal. The suspected criminal cannot be denied his right to a fair trial even if a majority of the citizenry demands otherwise.

_____________________________________________

Difference between Democracy and Republic, in brief:

Democracy:
a:
government by the people; especially : rule of the majority.

b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.

Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences

Republic
a: a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president  : a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government.

b: a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.

______________________________________________

Democracy and Republic are often taken as one of the same thing, but there is a fundamental difference.  Whilst in both cases the government is elected by the people, in Democracy the majority rules according to their whims, whilst in the Republic the Government rule according to law.  This law is framed in the Constitution to limit the power of Government and ensuring some rights and protection to Minorities and individuals.

The difference between Republic and Righteous Republic is that in the Republic the Government rules according to the law set up by men, in the Righteous Republic the law is the Law of God.  Only in the Righteous Republic it can truly be said “One nation under God” for it is governed under commandments of the only One True God and there is no pluralism of religions.

Autocracy declares the divine right of kings; its authority can not be questioned; its powers are arbitrarily or unjustly administered.

Truth be know we are no longer a Democracy or a Representative Republic but in fact a Fascist State!

In “Fascism Anyone?” Laurence Britt, identifies 14 characteristics
common in fascist regimes. His comparisons of Hitler, Mussolini,
Suharto, Pinochet, and Franco yielded these 14 common traits.

They are listed below

1) Powerful and continuing nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make use of patriotic
mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other
paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere as
are patriotic symbols on clothing, public displays,
and cars.

2) Disdain for the recognition of human
rights
Because of the fear of enemies and the need
for security, the people in fascist regimes are
persuaded that human rights and civil liberties
can be ignored in certain cases because of
“need”. The people tend to look the other
way or even approve of torture, summary
executions, long incarcerations of prisoners
without trial, etc.

3) Identification of enemies/scapegoats
as a unifying cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic
frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived
a common threat or foe: ethnic or religious
minorities, liberals, communists, terrorists,
etc.

4) Supremacy of the military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems,
the military is given a disproportionate
amount of government funding, and the domestic
agenda is neglected.

5) Rampant sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost
exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist
regimes, traditional gender roles are made more
rigid. Opposition to abortion is high as is homophobia,
and anti-gay legislation as national policy.

6) Controlled mass media
Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the
government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly
controlled by government regulation, or
sympathetic media spokespeople and executives.
Censorship, especially in war time, is common.

7) Obsession with national security
Fear is used as a motivational tool over the
masses.

8) Religion and government are intertwined
Governments in fascist regimes tend to use the
most common religion in the nation as a tool to
manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and
terminology is common from government leaders,
even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically
opposed to the government’s policies
and actions.

9) Corporate power is protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist
nation often are the ones who put the government
leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial
business/government relationship for the power
elite.

10) Labor power is suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the
only real threat to a fascist government. Labor
unions are either eliminated entirely or
are severely suppressed

11) Disdain for intellectuals and the arts
Fascist regimes tend to promote and tolerate
hostility to higher education and academia. It
is not uncommon for professors and other
academics to be censored or even arrested.
Free expression in the arts is openly attacked,
and governments often refuse to fund the
arts.

12) Obsession with crime and punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given
almost limitless power to enforce laws. The
people are often willing to overlook police
abuses and even forego civil liberties in the
name of patriotism. There is often a national
police force with virtually unlimited power in
fascist nations.

13) Rampant cronyism and corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed
by groups of friends and associates who appoint
each other to government positions
and use governmental power and authority to
protect their friends from accountability. It is
not uncommon in fascist regimes for national
resources and even treasures, to be appropriated
or even outright stolen by government
leaders.

14) Fraudulent elections
Sometimes elections in fascist regimes are a
complete sham. Other times elections are
manipulated by smear campaigns or even assassination
of opposition candidates, use of
legislation to control voting numbers or political
district boundaries, and the manipulation
of the media. Fascist nations also tend to
use their judiciaries to manipulate or control
elections.

I Was Wrong about David Cook

Posted in Prime Time, TV on May 22, 2008 by Engtovo

Wrong by a long shot, wow

David Archuletta 44% David Cook 56% of 97 million votes holy crap that is a lot of votes I wonder how many people are out there like me that love to watch Idol but don’t even vote?

That’s a shock I thought Archuletta had it, but ultimately with 97 million votes that means he got over 42 million votes so that is more than enough to start a healthy career in music!  I always new David Cook would have a healthy career if he won or not.  Pretty clear they both will do well and numerous other members of the top 10.

Wow the song the two Davids sang together at the beginning was better than either of them separate last night.  Then OMG Mike Myers, Guru Pitka LOL

Not more Sanjaya barbs leave the kid alone!  At least Kimmel didn’t say he couldn’t sing.  While he is no David, and he was really bad at song choice, the kid has a voice and luckily a great sense of humor smile_teeth

I love Jordin but who chose that dress???? it was dreadful!  I was kind of surprised to see her singing since she has been on vocal rest,  You could hear her voice was still somewhat strained.  Well now that I think about it she was on with Chris Brown a few weeks ago and she sounded good then.

Oh I forgot about Michael Johns in my post on David Cook I hope he makes a album! And Amanda the gravely rocker oh crap pretty much all of the top 10-12 could make a record this year.

Get Lindsay LOL

Posted in Soaps, TV on May 22, 2008 by Engtovo

No No No – Bo and Lindsay please not again!  It’s not as if they haven’t been leading up to this but I was hoping they would come to their senses with that, and the Nora Clint thing YUK!  Someone tell Bo she faked being crazy and is a killer! Whoo Hoo  RJ is back out of nowhere threatening to expose Lindsay’s secret(s).  LOL

I guess I should be glad they are getting storylines.  OLTL has always been the best about keeping the older characters in interesting front line storylines, GH and AMC could take a clue from that.  Just because a character gets older doesn’t mean we want them to stop having a life.

David Vickers is back :-) I just love it when he comes back, Tuk Watkins does comedy better than anyone on the soaps. Him working in Texas with the pie obsessed… hilarious

Todd is in jail and it is about time!  With his recent behavior how he stayed out of jail is a mystery.  I mean he beat the crap out of two teenagers and no one does anything?  It’s about time Blair stepped up I couldn’t believe that she was doing nothing while Todd had Starr followed every second of the day.  Then there is Nora she hasn’t been much of a guardian she should have went after Todd for beating up the kids.  I just don’t buy the whole business about Todd being delusional like thinking Starr was raped and all that.  Todd may have a violent temper from way back that they can get away with bringing up when they feel like it, but he is not stupid.  He would not just make something up in his mind and believe that’s what happened and to try and make it seem like he is doing it because of what he did to Marty 20 years ago uggg.  Like his guilt is making him delusional, please!  Bad writing is just bad writing LOL

Ted Kennedy Ho Hum

Posted in On The News, Politics, TV on May 21, 2008 by Engtovo

They are going on an on about this brain tumor that Teddy has and no offense to the family, but CNN get over it already.  The man is not dead…yet.  Leave something left to say when he does die.  It’s not like I have some great respect for this guy anyway.  He is just one more corrupt politician who has helped drive this country down the road to disaster (and no I am not a republican, I am INDEPENDENT)

His greatest claim to fame is being the brother of two politicians who were assassinated.  Since that time he just gets elected over and over with out any great effort by a state that thinks what?  Maybe they are still afraid of offending him, or they think the county owes him a lifelong career as penance for his brother’s death?   Apparently death is the only way we will get him out of congress.  If only he could take John McCain with him to the other side!  These are two sides of the same coin they write bills together that harm our constitution and pretend to to oppose each other.  When he does die we will hear about the whole Kennedy family for a fricken month.  Ho HUM

Any Chance for David Cook?

Posted in Prime Time, TV on May 21, 2008 by Engtovo

NOPE  I just don’t see it!  He’ll still make a good record and we’ll buy it, but last night little Archuletta was on point.  For a few weeks there I was wondering where he went, he wasn’t quite the kid I fell in love with listening to.  I suppose the pressure and nerves in the situation are just overwhelming at any age.  Last night though he was back and wow when he is on, he really touches your heart.

So we love you David Cook but I do believe you will be coming in second tonight, second though is pretty damn good!  This has really been a good season I think we can look forward to several good albums coming out. Jason, Brooke, hopefully, Carly, Syesha, and of course the two Davids, that’s a lot of music out of one season.  I suppose we are likely to get a country album too from the little blond but I’m just not into country or her singing so I could care less.

Kristy takes it no big surprise

Posted in Prime Time, TV on May 21, 2008 by Engtovo

I’m sure no one was really surprised when Kristy won Dancing with the Stars, I mean she is AWESOME and the judges have been holding back with her the last 3 weeks or so to make it appear she didn’t steal the whole season.  As much as she deserved to win though a little part of me wanted Jason to win just because of Edita.  She wears her heart on her sleeve and for all these seasons watching her on elimination nights you just can’t help but want to see her win that mirror ball!

The good news though was  Cheryl getting eliminated at 3 no offence to Christian but Cheryl just annoys me. LOL  I hope next season Cheryl gets a real DUD and goes out the first week.  I also hope Maks is back next season gotta love Maks :-)
